Print KOT slips so the kitchen stops guessing

If the kitchen is cooking from memory, the bill will eventually be wrong too. The slip is how the floor and the pass stay on the same order.

Why shouting feels faster, then is not

In a loud room, shouting the order feels quicker than writing it. It is quicker for the first table. The second table talks over it. The cook hears the dish and misses the table number. Two meals that look alike go to the wrong guests, and the remake lands in the middle of the rush you were trying to save.

A handwritten slip has the same failure when the pen is fast and the paper is small. "Meal" is not an order if one table wanted an extra and the other did not. Extras are where the money is, and they are the line that gets skipped.

What a useful kitchen slip contains

The first slip can go out the moment the table confirms. Do not wait until the guest asks for the bill to tell the kitchen what was ordered. The guest bill is a second print of the same order, when they are ready to pay.

  • The table number, or a token if the guest is at the counter
  • Each item on its own line, including extras
  • A new slip when the table adds food later, not a verbal addition to the first slip
  • A name or token on parcels, so a bag is not handed to the wrong person

Adding a round without losing the first one

Long tables fail in the third round. Dessert, another starter, a second drink. If that round is spoken and never written, it is missing on the bill or cooked twice. Keep the table open. Add the new items. Print a slip only for the new items. Close the table when the payment is done, not when the plates are cleared.

How W8R prints the slip

W8R prints KOT slips and guest bills from the same order, on the thermal printer you already have. The table number stays with the items. When the table adds food, you add it to that table and print again. Counter orders can use a token instead of a table.

The kitchen still has to read the slip. The software does not cook. It stops the order existing only as a shout.

Try it on one shift

For one lunch, nothing goes to the pass without a slip. Count remakes and wrong tables during that shift only. Owners usually find the misses were the extras and the second round, not the main plate everyone remembers.

Keep the printer where the order is taken, not in a back room. If the cashier has to walk away to print, they will go back to shouting by the second rush. Paper in the printer is part of the opening checklist, same as gas and change.
